Council Recycling Stupidity

From the BBC:-

UK supermarkets should be forced to reveal how much packaging they produce, local councils say.

And why might that be, then?

"Supermarkets must be open with people about how much packaging they are producing," said Margaret Eaton, chairman of the Local Government Association, in a letter to Environment Secretary Hilary Benn.

"It is vital that consumers can make informed choices about where they shop and which products they buy."

Because there's no way that a consumer picking up a product can see how much packaging is on it, is there?

  1. There are also all the crates and wrapping and stuff that chucked out at the back of the supermarkets, which is less visible to the consumer.

  2. Probably for the blind, you know what this government is like about minorities.

  3. manc_ill_kid,

But that's irrelevant packaging to the council as it's taken away as commercial waste, where their complaint is about the waste that the rest of us dump which affects their EU Landfill quotas.

If councils were honest, they wouldn't talk about the cost of us dumping rubbish (which is trivial) and instead about the extra cost that is added by the landfill directive.
